Judgment-Mapping: Why L&D Professionals are Key to the AI-Native Company

Session Overview:

AI's most significant disruption isn't "productivity," it is the collapsing cost of prediction. For L&D professionals, this shift represents a high-value opportunity to move beyond instructional design and into becoming cognitive architects for entire companies.

As an L&D professional, your expertise in Needs Analysis and task-deconstruction makes you the perfect candidate to lead what's known as "judgment mapping": the process of unbundling expert intuition into programmable logic.

In this session, we will cover:
- The Decision Equation: How to unbundle "the gut feeling" into its two economic components: Prediction (what AI is best at) and Judgment (what humans are best at).
- Judgment Mapping: Designing "Decision Matrices" that replace manual review cycles with pre-authorized, autonomous thresholds.
- Forward-Deployed Prediction: Leading surgical data sprints to identify and "harden" the specific business signals needed for system-native execution.
- Expertise Liberation: Positioning yourself as a strategic partner who frees senior leaders from routine tasks to focus on high-stakes judgment.

Join us to learn how to leverage your background in human performance to architect the systems that will power the next decade of business.

Speaker: Scott Provence, Founder, Speaker, Author of Fail to Learn

Scott Provence is an award-winning designer of AI software and training curricula. His specialty lies at the intersection of Learning and Development, business strategy, and technical writing. Sought for his unique blend of AI innovation-knowledge and non-technical communication style, Scott excels at transforming business and technology needs into clear, actionable strategies that empower workforces.

While familiar with coding and technical writing throughout his career, Scott became involved in deep learning and AI while leading the Learning and Development team at Google Health. He contributed to early testing of Large Language Models that paved the way for Google's Gemini. Around the same time, Scott also founded Versant Metrics, a venture dedicated to enhancing communication and soft-skills with AI. As the head of Versant, Scott developed an algorithm that leverages Natural Language Processing (NLP) to empirically measure and improve specific empathy skills such as open-questions and reflective statements. Versant Metrics has gone on to provide organizations with a standardized, data-driven method for tracking and improving customer-service communications. In 2023, Scott's algorithm won two awards from Training Magazine for its approach to interactive education, and results from Versant Metrics were published the following year in the peer-reviewed medical journal Cureus.

In his current role as Business Strategy Partner at Engagency, Scott works with organizations of all sizes to help them analyze the AI skills and opportunities of their workforce. He has helped Fortune 1000 companies adopt and create cutting-edge AI technologies, and harness them to cultivate more agile, skilled, and engaged workforces.
